Introduction

SmartFoxServer 3 comes with two different licensing modalities: Elastic and Perpetual.


  • The Elastic license is based on a prepaid, rechargeable credit and is charged on a daily basis. The charged amount varies with the license's maximum concurrent users (CCU) and optional addons configured by the customer. The configuration can be changed at any time via our Licenses Management web interface, so you can fine tune your spending based on the application traffic.

  • Perpetual licenses are everlasting and require a one time fee. They allow to run SmartFoxServer on one machine and reach a fixed maximum number of concurrent users (CCU). Upgrades are possible by paying the price difference.

Licenses Management

SmartFoxServer 3 perpetual and elastic licenses are managed via a secure web-based interface.

Our centralized, highly available License Server allows your administrators to manage and monitor the licenses in a snap, re-assign licenses to different machines and simplify SFS3 cloud deployments. Licenses aren't bound to physical IP addresses.

This service has no additional costs and it doesn't require any specific setup on your side. The only requirement is allowing SmartFoxServer to talk to the License Server on port 443 (HTTPS).

Perpetual licenses

All SmartFoxServer 3 perpetual licenses have the following specific characteristics:

  • never expire
  • one time fee
  • always upgrade to a higher license by paying the price difference

Each license is valid for one server machine: if you need to run multiple SFS3 instances, you have to buy multiple licenses.

Beta launch discount

Buy a SmartFoxServer 3 perpetual license during the initial beta phase and get a 20% discount on the retail price!

SFS2X license conversion

If you want to upgrade your application based on the previous SmartFoxServer 2X to the more advanced and feature-rich SmartFoxServer 3, you are entitled to a 30% discount on the SFS3 retail price in case you convert your existing 2X license. And if you need to convert three or more licenses, you get an additional 10% volume discount.

The following conditions apply:

  • You can convert a SFS2X license to the corresponding SFS3 license only (for example you can convert a SFS2X 500 Users license to a SFS3 500 Users license).
  • The discount can't be combined: you can't convert two or more SFS2X licenses to a single SFS3 license to increase the discount.
  • Converting non-standard SmartFoxServer 2X licenses (i.e. a Development license) to SmartFoxServer 3 is not possible.
  • Converting the older SmartFoxServer Pro / Basic licenses to SmartFoxServer 3 is not possible.

Elastic license

The Elastic license is based on a prepaid, rechargeable credit and is charged on a daily basis. The charged amount varies with the license's maximum concurrent users (CCU). Read this page for detailed information.

Pricing

The base license price is 0.065€ per CCU per month, where CCU is the maximum number of CCU configured for the license. The following discounts also apply:
- max CCU >= 2000: 30% discount
- max CCU >= 5000: 40% discount
- max CCU >= 10000: 55% discount

IMPORTANT: when buying an elastic license, you are actually buying the credit required to run SFS3 with the selected maximum CCU for one or more months. Please note that the credit purchased for each license will be rounded to the upper 10€.
