[Solved]VPS Setup help.[Solved]
Hello,
I am trying to set SMFS up on my Ubuntu VPS problem is it says it can't bind that ip. I wasn't sure if Smartfoxserver wasn't capable of connecting to Virtual Private Servers or what but I need some help.

I want it running on my vps though.
Re: VPS Setup help.
Hi there,
Yes, but if you configure the serverIp tag on the config.xml to *, the server will bind to all the available IPs.
It's really useful when you're not sure what IP to bind.

That's right, I forgot about that. I'll try it and post back.

Cannot bind adress error while trying to connect to vps ip.
Hello,
Okay so I have tried contacting bluehost which hosts my vps and they said the port 9339 is open but requires a service to run on it to show up as open. How am I supposed to run smartfoxserver while it's showing as closed but is really open.

Re: VPS Setup help.
Hello,
If SFS binds a correct IP and port, even if the port is blocked, SFS will still bind successfully and not provide any errors.
In your case, as SFS is reporting it can't bind the specified IP, then it means that the IP you've configured on the <serverIp> setting of the config.xml file is probably wrong.
On a VPS, it usually isn't behind a router, so you have to enter the VPS' external IP (not the domain), on the <serverIp> setting.
Can you confirm that?

Re: VPS Setup help.
Yes, I have the ip adress typed in.
Re: VPS Setup help.
What happened when you configured the <serverIp> setting to *?
I've found on the web that you need to buy a dedicated IP in order to BlueHost to open the ports for you.
Have you bought it?
Thanks

Yes I did buy a dedicated ip, and setting smartfoxserver to * works but in the avatarChat example when I specify the ip as * it won't connect.

Re: VPS Setup help.
Hello,
Are you using the correct java runtime for linux from Sun Microsystems?
I suggest you to look at this topic, as it seems about the same issue you're facing:

Cheers
