Now unity uses the responses but does nothing after that...

you have to set them yourself, you already got the username from the login gui.

How finished is your project? Can we play it anywhere? Have you a trial SFS license?
I mean, with a trial license and a good set up for your computer, it would be enough. You won't have more than 20 players at a time.
IMHO, Renting a good server and upgrading SFS license goes together. And that would be an initial inversion of 1000€ aprox.
In the other hand, you can rent a cheaper server, with less capability for testing purposes. In this last case, you would have to find the cheaper solution, not the better=expensive option. You can find VPS for less than 20€, and they will satisfy your SFS trial server requeriments.
When you take a few years in indie game development, you try not to invest too much in something that is not really solid. No offense.
