We run SFS and MySQL on an EC2 instance, which is locked down in such a way that you can't connect to the DB from outside that instance without using tunneling. I don't know if that's normal for EC2 but it is a PITA - since we moved from our old host I can't run a local SFS server against the real DB for testing.
I'm running on Windows locally but have cygwin installed and use tools like ssh/scp to access the Linux EC2 instance, though I know little about Linux.
Can anyone help me figure out how my local SFS can talk to the EC2 DB, setting up SSH tunneling or using putty or something like that? Note, this isn't the Smartfox XML config file but a regular Java JDBC connection with connection strings. I can hack my code locally if I need.

Hello,
Have you tried using a VPN program which would create a "bridge" between your EC2 instance and your local computer? That way you could then connect to the database through an internal IP.
