log4j > 1.2.15

are there already plans to use a newer version of the log4j framework beyond the currently used 1.2.15? Maybe once log4j 2.x is out of the beta stage?

I'm flirting with the idea to use the RollingFileAppender (log4j extras companion) to compress / discard older versions of the logfiles (without using logrotate or some additional shell scripts), but afaik this would require at least version 1.2.16 to configure it via the log4j.properties.

No plans for now but we'll follow the developments.
Thanks

Hi,
all the logging is based on SLF4J and then we use Log4J as the preferred/default implementation. I believe SLF4J also supports Log4J 2 so I think you could easily switch to that implementation.

If you do so let us know if it's working well for you. We'll take a look at it for one of the next releases.

Thanks
