Video Broadcasting to couple of Millions users

Postby noveltysoft » 06 Feb 2018, 01:07

Hello Support,

Does SmartFoxServer Redbox do RTMP Live Streams?

We are developing an app for teaching purpose where 1 teacher will be broadcasting his lectures to the user via VIDEO Broadcasting (Live Streaming) and students will provide their input in different ways to ask Live questions etc.

Looking to confirm if this is what Smartfox server can afford and what level of License we would require. We will be starting this app with a couple of 1000 subscribers we already have but this will gradually increase to Millions soon.

This message is to get an expert opinion to make sure we arrange proper resources if SmartFoxServer is a right choice for it and is good enough to handle such load. Also what level or hardware we would need to support up to 10K subscribers, 500K subscribers and then Millions+. This app will be broadcasting one video to everyone and participants would be open reply back the answers to particular questions.

Is the SmartFoxServer right choice for such application, or we would use some third-party streaming services to stream the videos from there.

Please confirm.
Thank you!

Hi,
the RedBox is an add-on for audio/video that was built using the open source Red5 server ( http://red5.org/ ) and yes, it supports the RTMP protocol and it does live streams.

This message is to get an expert opinion to make sure we arrange proper resources if SmartFoxServer is a right choice for it and is good enough to handle such load.

SmartFoxServer is a sophisticated platform for building multiplayer games, chats and virtual worlds. The RedBox add-on complements the main server's features with A/V capabilities so I would say this could be the right platform for your project.

As regards the ability to handle such load, this is not much an issue of the software but rather the hardware resources available. A/V streaming is pretty demanding and handling 10s of thousands of clients will require a dedicated infrastructure with a cluster of servers able to keep up with the load.

Is the SmartFoxServer right choice for such application, or we would use some third-party streaming services to stream the videos from there.

As I mentioned, SmartFoxServer at his core is a multiplayer platform.
The A/V solution is integrated in the system via a third party, open source solution, Red5 Media Server. You could certainly test and compare Red5 to other competing technologies and see which works better for your needs.

SmartFoxServer can be integrated with all sorts of different technologies and it allows to plug server-side code to interface with databases, remote services etc... So it would be relatively simple to integrate another A/V component if you need it.

For more information on the RedBox add-on you can start from here:

Hope it helps

Hi,

Thank you for detailed response. I haven seen the Redbox documentation and found that its only integration is with Action Script 3 client. Our app gas already been developed for native Android and IOS at this stage we cannot move it to AS3. What do you recommend on connecting Redbox with Android and IOS native.

Since Flash is quite obsolete from client apps now, therefore i would suggest Smartfoxserver to come up with a Redbox solution for native mobile dev.

Waqas

Actionscript 3 refers to the client side of things. If your iOS/Android client supports RTMP you should be able to stream A/V without problems.

Since Flash is quite obsolete from client apps now, therefore i would suggest Smartfoxserver to come up with a Redbox solution for native mobile dev.

Our AS3 API adds an extra layer of integration with SmartFoxServer but essentially it is a wrapper around the RTMP features,
In other words, any client technology out there which is able to speak RTMP can already use the RedBox.

Hope it helps
