Class serialization/deserialization

I made a small java client which executes extension request (getWinners) which returns response containing array of objects - each object is instance of custom class Winner. The problem is that in client I can not get these objects although Winner class is in classpath. Furthermore, event listener is not even triggered when mentioned extension request is executed.
So, in principle my question is: how to get custom objects from SFS to java client?
