Installing sfs2x API

Postby moree007 » 08 Sep 2011, 02:41

Please help me troubleshoot this issue.

Here are the steps I have taken so far.

I installed SmartFoxServerPRO 1.6.
From the start menu I selected Start SmartFoxServerPRO.
I opened Flash Professional, and started following the tutorial
"Connecting to the server". The tutorial instructed me to open the file
"simpleConnect.fla". I opened the file in Flash Pro, and selected
control + return to run the program within Flash.
In the output window, Flash states:

Scene=Scene 1, layer=Layer 1, frame=1, Line 27 The class or interface 'SmartFoxClient' could not be loaded.

I then referenced your site which states that I need to install the
API for Flash. I downloaded two Zip files in hopes to resolve the
error:

SFS2X-RC3-patch.tar and SFS2X_API_AS3__0.9.17
(I also downloaded and installed AdobeExtensionManager5.5All.zip

I restarted Flash Pro and debugged the program simpleConnect.fla
again. I still received the error.

I went back to the gotoAndPlay web site and downloaded SFS2X_windows_2_0_0RC1b.exe. I installed it on my computer.
Now I have two versions of SmartFoxServer installed:
SmartFoxServer 2X and SmartFoxServerPro1.6

I watched the installation tutorial http://www.youtube.com/smartFoxServer/# ... wfzf7JcsvE
and followed the steps provided. I then relaunched Flash Pro
and tried to run simpleConnect.fla, again. I still get the exact
same error within Flash Pro's output.

I am using Flash Professional 5.5.

Please don't double post.

I would suggest reading the online documentation as found from http://docs2x.smartfoxserver.com, particularly the 'Getting started' section.

Don't double post?? Are you kidding me? I posted this about 7 hours ago,
and have been trying to get this to work all day long. Now finally I get a
response, and the only response I get is refer to a get started page that I've been going blind looking at all day long. Is this the best you can do??

I can not tell you how frustrating it is to message every member here,
write a greatly detailed post, and wait 7 hours for a response!

Apparently, breaking your rules of double posting was the only way
to get a response.

Hopefully, I won't have to wait another 7 hours for a response to this reply, but here goes.

After going to the page you recommend, it gives directions to switch the SWC option within the publish settings within Flash. The file "simpleConnect.fla" is an actionscript 2.0 file. The option to check
the SWC option is not offered unless you are working with an AS 3.0
file.

What directions can I look at to see how to make this file work, being
that it is an AS2 file.

It sounds like you're using the simpleConnect example from SFS1x which isn't compatible with SFS2x. I'm in process of downloading SFS2x and its examples so that I will try out the steps described in the online documentation for AS3 flash API to determine whether or not it works.

Note that you can download examples for SFS2x as found from http://www.smartfoxserver.com/2X/download.php (scroll down a bit)

Yea, there's no simpleConnect in SFS2x. There's a Connector SFS2X example which worked out of the box for me. That's a nice feature too..

I tried to go through the connection tutorial. When I ran the
Connector.html file, this is the output I get:

--> SmartFox API: 0.9.16
--> Click the CONNECT button to start...
--> Config load success!
--> Server settings: 127.0.0.1:9933
--> Connection Failure: Error #2048

Please advise how to correct this.

moree007, you are making a lot of confusion, writing here and by email, and multiple threads. Please stick to one request at a time, and be patient. Realtime forum/email support is not among our services, sorry.

First of all it is not clear if you are now using SFS 1 or SFS 2X. Can you please clarify. Then make sure you read the proper "getting started" documentation, about installing and running SmartFoxServer and connecting to it. Then, if you still have problems, try searching this forum (questions similar to yours have been entered dozens of times).
Finally, you can enter a new post if you couldn't find an answer to your problems. Of course make sure you enter it in the proper forum (SFS 1 or SFS 2X).
Thank you.

Again, I have installed SFS2X-RC1a, and also installed
SmartFoxServerPro.

I have restarted the computer, and application.

I am still receiving the error 2048 message when opening
the Connector.html after clicking the connect button
as instructed by the tutorial.

SFS1x products/examples cannot be used with SFS2x and vice visa. Are you running SFS2x as a standalone (or service)? This is required for the SFS2x examples to work properly.

It seems my previous reply went unnoticed... maybe I should close this topic, while moree007 takes some time to better read the documentation and follow my advices...
