There's a bit of a strangeness in the Linux package.
The the runtime library, rt.jar, is provided in packed form as rt.jar.pack and it is auto-unpacked the first time you launch the server via the sfs2x-service script. If you attempt to use the regular launch shell script (sfs2x.sh) it will spit out that error because the rt.jar is still in its compressed form and therefore not found.

Besides that it should work correctly, unless the auto-unpacking fails for other reasons.

Good that you brought this up, I didn't know either :D

Hi Guys,

I just installed SFS 2.0.1 and i get the same issue "Error initializing VM"

If i remove these lines then it works :

#if [ -d "$JRE_FOLDER" ]; then
# JAVA_CMD="../jre/bin/java"
#fi

But if i remove it, smartfox will use the Java installed in the server. I thought SFS recommends to use the java that is shipped with it. What is the best practice ?

Are you launching the server using this?

Code: Select all

./sfs2x-server start

What OS do you use?

I think that's the problem. Make sure to at least start the server once with the command I suggested. This will unpack the server's JVM and the error should go away.

Thanks
