getTileInstanceData method

Hi,
I saw that there is a method called getTileInstanceData but I can't find a way to get access to it.
(I saw this method in some error messages posted on here)

Is there a way to gain access to it?
If not, is there a specific reason why not? (it seems like it could provide more robust access to tile information)

If there's not specific reason, perhaps you can issue a minor api update that provides this access?

That method is not accessible because it returns specific data structures used by OS internally. Nothing that could be helpful to developers.
