Question about connecting to server

Postby Discord » 30 Mar 2009, 02:00

Alright, I am sure this question has been asked many times, and for that I am sorry. But I have not been able to find an answer after about an hour of searching.

I have downloaded the tutorials and examples for unity, and I was working on the Unity IslandDemo. It works fine when I run it all locally, but when I get a friend to try and connect to my computer, he can't connect.

I opened port 9339, disabled my firewall, and told him to connect to my ip (65.13.92.248). i used whatismyip.com to figure that out.

I tried configuring the server to run on 65.13.92.248, but the server failed to start, so i left it to the default 127.0.0.1.

When I read the documentation, it made it sound like all I had to do was change the ip address in the config.xml from 127.0.0.1 to 65.13.92.248, but that didnt work.

Anyone have an answer to this (probably) simple question?

Hi Discord

It sounds like a question more suitable for one of the other forums, as its not really API related (from the sound of it).

But besides changing the IP in the config.xml + turning off your local firewall, you could still be behind another firewall. It could also be, that you need to enable NAT'ing in your router - if you are not connected directly to the internet with your maching, but to a local network.

Ok. And I wasn't really sure where to post this, since it involves using the unity tutorial.

I will try posting to another part of the forum.

Thanks.

But as I said - try to look at your NAT settings (if you have a private local network). That would exhibit that behaviour you talk about
