Exception in ExtensionHandler: java.lang.NullPointerExceptio

Postby dlong » 01 Jul 2010, 19:56

Hi,

We're having a problem with our production SFS locking up sporadically... we have a pretty large log file (about 12MB) so I didn't want to post the whole thing here.

We're pretty high throughput with thousands of concurrent users... this seems to happen about once every few weeks. Once we restart the server service, everything picks back up and continues on great for a few weeeks.

Basically, one recurring issue we see is hundreds of null pointer exceptions in the ExtensionHandler. I'm guessing this is something we're doing incorrectly but maybe it's a common fix.

Lots of these:

INFO | jvm 1 | 2010/07/01 00:02:59 | 00:02:59.732 - [ WARNING ] > Exception in ExtensionHandler: java.lang.NullPointerException
INFO | jvm 1 | 2010/07/01 00:02:59 | Exception type: java.lang.NullPointerException
INFO | jvm 1 | 2010/07/01 00:02:59 | java.lang.NullPointerException

Lots of these too:

INFO | jvm 1 | 2010/07/01 00:03:14 | 00:03:14.573 - [ WARNING ] > Problems during user removal: <username here>

How do we go about solving the issue? Can I just email you the log? Please let me know if I can provide more info.

Thanks in advance!

There was an error reporting bug in a special case, if I remember correctly but it has been fixed in version 1.6.8. Make sure to download the latest update.

Same Error

Postby blindgoatia » 30 Jul 2010, 16:30

Hi-

We are getting the same error as dlong. Once it occurs once, we seem to get it many times in a short period.

The exact error:

INFO | jvm 1 | 2010/07/29 00:00:06 | 00:00:06.857 - [ WARNING ] > Exception in ExtensionHandler: java.lang.NullPointerException
INFO | jvm 1 | 2010/07/29 00:00:06 | Exception type: java.lang.NullPointerException
INFO | jvm 1 | 2010/07/29 00:00:06 | java.lang.NullPointerException

SFS version 1.6.8.
Java Service Wrapper Community Edition 3.3.1
java.version: 1.6.0_18

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

We keep having the issue in Sfs Server Version 1.6.9, these are the exact logging entries:

2010/09/20 17:31:01.029 - [ WARNING ] [id: 17] (ExtensionHandler.processEvent): Exception in ExtensionHandler: java.lang.NullPointerException

Can you help? Is there a way to improve the logging on this issue?

Thanks

Hi, I am quite sure 1.6.9 solves the issue reported at the beginning. Maybe what you are talking about is different.
Can you please provide the error and related stack traces?

Hi,
I did met the same error. It was no SmartFox bug but an error in our own Zone Extension Code. The client sent a command, which was unexpected by the Zone Extension. All of our commands are hold in a map, which returned null in this case.
Maybe its a similar problem in your case?
