Troubleshooting Can't Connect errors

Postby mixart » 06 Mar 2008, 21:28

After updating my server to SFSPro 1.6.1 many of my users are saying that are having problems connecting.

I've been trying to gather data to find out the issue but it's very hard to get any details of why people are having problems
- users that used to be able to connect fine are having problems connecting
- many users can still connect fine
- users can connect one day but not the next
- of users I have surveyed, they are not behind firewalls or routers

Is there any way I can trace or pinpoint what is causing connection errors for users that are getting a "can't connect" error? It's not a limit on max IP connections as I've increased that limit and users have reported they have seen that error and not getting that error.

I have bluebox running (from what I can tell) but never noticed anyone actually connected to it.
I re-published my SWF with the latest AS2 client-side scripts that were included in the 1.6.1 update.

Did you recompile the application with the API coming with SFS 1.6.1 ?
Can you double check that the getVersion() method of the SmartFoxClient object returns this version number? -> 1.5.3

Yes I used the latest API files - when I trace the version number I get...

1.5.4

Should I be getting 1.5.3?

API Version is good.
The problem might be related with the Flash Player 9.0.115 getting more popular. From that version a few more restrictions have been added to the Security Sandbox.

Make sure to install that version of the Flash Player on your machine or a test PC and check if connection works okay.

I just downloaded the 1.6.1 full install to my local PC and in doing this I noticed my admin tool displaying v. 1.6.1 at the bottom (like it should). However I realized that my server installation has always displayed 1.6.0.

I previously had 1.6.0 and had installed the 1.6.1 patch but it looks like it may have not worked? I've followed all the instructions in copying the server files from the patch.

I'll try doing a clean install of 1.6.1 on my server and will post if there has been any success.

Should the Admin tool display 1.6.1 or 1.6.0 if it was initially a 1.6.0 install with the 1.6.1 patch applied?

The Admin Tool will say -> 1.6.1
If you have recently downloaded the installer you already have a 1.6.1

Thanks Lapo - everything seems to be working properly now since a fresh install of the 1.6.1 download.

I'm not sure of the exact reasons but the 1.6.1 patch did not fully update my previous 1.6.0 install which was causing the problems.
