Postby ckf » 07 Feb 2006, 18:37

hey there

I have a phpBB2 forum and i was wondering if there was anyway i could make it so a logged in person could get logged into a smartfox chat room with their phpBB2 name. I have plenty of actinoscript knowledge but know nothing of php. thanks!

Yes, it would be definately possible.
There are 2 ways.

1) Use PHP, as you suggested. You can create a PHP script that access the PHPBB database and checks the user credentials. Then it sends a response back to the Flash client which in turn will log the user inside the chat

2) The best way would be to use SmartFoxServer PRO.
SFS PRO can access any database, so you would just need to write a simple server-side extension that checks the PHPBB database and validate the user.

Both solutions are good but the second one is cleaner and a lot more secure.

In our docs you will find a couple of tutorials with source code showing how to connect SFS to a database. ( chapters 8.3 and 8.4 )

If you don't feel comfortable with PHP I'd suggest to go with option 2

You'll find exhaustive documentation on how to connect to a database and 2 tutorials with source code that will guide you through the process

Post your questions here, if something is not clear :)
