Thank you again. My license is for the Basic version, so I don't believe those online docs - or at least the <ExternalPolicyFile> tag applies. Will the default cross domain policy sent by the Basic version tell the Flash player 9 that it should allow communication on ports < 1024? If not, is there a...

Thanks for the response. I've also checked the TCP page on wikipedia as recommended and now feel less like a TCP newbie. There does seem to be another issue, however - when the dreaded latest Flash 9 plug in is used. This does not, by default, allow socket communication on ports < 1024. There seems ...

Basic Port Info

I'm trying to fully understand my options when it comes to the usage of ports with SFS but am hampered by my lack of understanding of the port concept. Does anyone know of a good source of fundamental info about ports? Or, if someone is feeling generous: as I understand it/questions: - You have cont...

I'll second the regular expressions suggestions. I have a list of regular expressions that I just move over to new forum or single player game environments when we implement them.

setUserVariables (at least) suggestion

While setUserVariables can be used to hold variables that update regularly (e.g. position) - in less complex environments it is being used to hold user variables that do not update. Hence the constant confusion in these forums over the need to restrict their setting until someone has joined a room. ...

See this was two years ago - but can't find anything about any features for challenging. Am I missing something? If it's not there yet - given that the challenge interface is very standard and almost always more suitable than the create a room and wait option in the tutorials, this would seem like a...

Add me to the +ve experience list

Add me to the +ve experience list I am also at the evaluation stage for a top 10,000 website and I have to say that the support in advance of a purchase (on this forum in particular) are one of the reasons SFS is almost certain now to be our choice. This sort of commitment not only to customers but ...

Hi - thank you - but what documentation is that? 1.3 in the docs I have does not have that - only has those commands for Linux and they do not work for me either under OS X or other Unix flavor. I'm using v1.5.5.

Command line stop/restart for OS X and Unix?

I can't find any reference to a stop/restart command line command for OS X and Unix - and the Linux commands (./sfs) do not seem to work. Is there a standard script to run or even java that could be called from the command line to do this. (short of a kill).

Was actually FreeBSD ...

Thank you so much for your excellent suggestion - it pointed the way to the appalling error at my end - we didn't have Linux installed after all - but FreeBSD. So we've now uploaded the correct version - the Mac version. I have, the other week, got this version working fine on OSX - however, I'm now...

*UPDATED* FreeBSD Install issue -

When I try running the Basic SmartFoxServer ./install script on a Linux install I get the following error: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM warning: Can't detect initial thread stack location - find_vma failed Bad system call (core dumped) It seems to have something to do with the fact that the script cal...
