windows 8 metro app client side api

Postby priyesh07 » 27 Aug 2012, 10:32

Hi we are planning to build a native metro style client app of our games for windows 8 but the current c# client api's(unity3d api's) is not compatible with the same. So any plans for supporting sfs pro 1.6.9 for windows 8 client.

Hi,
the Unity API, as far as I can remember, use regular C# and .Net code, including .Net sockets.
Since I am not familiar with the changes in Windows 8, could you explain what problems / incompatibilities there are?

Thanks
Lapo

Hi Lapo,

While creating a sample app for windows 8 using.Net api's i am getting following error

Cannot find type System.ApplicationException in module mscorlib.dll

I have checked few forums on new they are saying some components of earlier .NET is not supported in windows metro style app

http://wiimotelib.codeplex.com/discussions/355330
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums ... 9d124ece52

We are also having talks with microsoft and they said

"The managed library supplied by SFS is not a WinRT component. It makes calls to types that are not part of the .NET WinRT profile. We’ll need to get SFS to supply a WinRT safe component that can be used from Windows Store apps"

Regards,

Hi priyesh07,
thanks for the information. This clarifies alot of things.
We'll take a closer look at the Windows8 platform later this year. Unfortunately I cannot promise anything as of now but we'll keep you updated.

Cheers
Lapo
